Frankfurt Christmas Market

Many of us who were heading home from Cairo opted to take a little excursion to the Frankfurt Christmas Market. (A great way to spend an eight-hour layover in Frankfurt!)

A coach bus picked us up at the airport and we went to a lovely hotel restaurant for brunch – German artisan breads with all manner of spreads and jams, pastries, eggs, bacon, yogurt, granola, fruit and much more. Oh, and let’s not forget the fancy espresso machine — coffee, cappuccino and other delicious caffeinated beverages appeared with the press of a button (delightful after a nighttime flight).

Once our bellies were full, we boarded the bus for the Christmas market. We spent the next few hours enjoying the elaborate and creative stand decorations, the scenic surroundings on the Römerberg and St Paul’s Square and the huge Christmas tree that served as our meeting place. (OK, we might have done some shopping and treat tasting as well).

It was a wonderful way to end our time away and a teaser of sorts for our next Awaken trip – A Rhine River Cruise and the Oberammergau Passion Play.

For now,
Shalom and
Bis zum nächsten Mal (see you next time – I hope!)
